History: Recognizing a lack of content that truly equipped readers with the tools to create better workplaces, Norm Kamikow and John Taggart founded Human Capital Media (then known as MediaTec Publishing) in 1999. Its first publication, Certification Magazine, focused on career development for information technology professionals.
The positive response to Certification Magazine revealed an unfulfilled demand for relevant workforce-related content, and the company steadily grew from there, expanding to a diverse portfolio of media brands that focus on the development and importance of talent. In 2004, HCM went beyond being solely a print media group and launched its events initiatives.
Certification Magazine was sold in 2013. After rebranding in 2015 to Human Capital Media, the company now engages with its audience under three separate brands: Chief Learning Officer (launched in 2004), Workforce (acquired from Crain’s in 2013) and its newest imprint Talent Economy (launched in 2016), the only media brand targeting senior business leaders exclusively on the topic of talent.
