Human Capital Media was founded in 1999 as MediaTec Publishing by Norm Kamikow and John Taggart. Recognizing a lack of content that truly equipped its readers with the tools to create better workplaces, Kamikow and Taggart created Certification Magazine, which focused on career development for information technology professionals. The positive response to Certification Magazine revealed an unfulfilled demand for relevant workforce-related content, and the company steadily grew from there, expanding to a diverse portfolio of media brands that focus on the development and importance of the workforce.
HCM went beyond being solely a print media group and launched its events initiatives in 2004. Certification Magazine was sold in 2013, and HCM now engages with its audience under three separate brands: Chief Learning Officer (launched in 2002), Talent Management (2005) and Workforce magazine (acquired from Crain’s in 2013).
Now, after rebranding in 2015 to Human Capital Media, HCM continues to grow and gain credibility as the HR industry’s most reliable source for comprehensive media coverage that features organizations, professionals and best practices that are serving the human capital industry. As a company that truly believes an organization’s best asset is its people, HCM’s team of experts creates and delivers insightful dialogue around topical and pressing issues of the modern-day workplace.
